The Captives of the Mighty shall be Taken Away

‘Deliverance Hour’ Message by Elder Enoch Ofori Jnr
(New Year Camp Meeting Jan. 2, 2011)

Golden Text:
“Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?
“ But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.

“ And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob” (Isa. 49:24-26).

Brethren, it’s freedom time in the Lord Jesus, for “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Cor. 3:17). If the devil previously oppressed us now no more! A new hour has dawned. The people who formerly walked in darkness have seen “a great light”—the Son born unto us Whose Name is “Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:2,6).

In the days of His flesh when He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day in Nazareth, He turned to the Book of Isaiah and began to read from the 61st chapter:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, “To preach the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).

Before the coming of Christ, all fallen humankind were the lawful captives of Satan “sold under sin” (Rom. 7:14, 6:16). But when the Son of the Highest came, He set us free– we who were all our “lifetime subject to bondage” (John 8:36; Heb. 2:14-15).  When H e died on the cross of Calvary to pay the death penalty for our sins, He cancelled the bond that held us in debt and in servitude, “and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross” (Col. 2:13-14).

No longer the captives of Satan, He subdued all our spiritual oppressors—the demonic principalities and powers—parading and triumphing over them as His captives (v. 15). The tables have turned!

Immediately Christ began His ministry, when after 40 days’ fasting “He returned in the power of the Spirit” (Luke 4:14; cp John 3:34), He embarked on His rescue mission delivering the captives of Satan. The devils were astonished and perplexed at the turn of events. Not able to withstand His word of power, they cried out,   “Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, Thou Jesus of Nazareth? art Thou come to destroy us? I know Thee who Thou art; the Holy One of God.  And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.  And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power He commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out” (Luke 4:31-36).

Tonight, the good news is that the devil himself, not just his works, has been destroyed by Christ Jesus, ‘The Mighty God’ (Heb. 2:14; 1 John 3:8). When He ascended up on high at His resurrection, He took captivity (the devil) captive “and gave gifts to men” (Eph. 4:8). These spiritual gifts are our spiritual weapons of freedom! Tonight, they are in operation to set every captive of Satan free, “for the weapons of our warfare are … mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4).

A bother or sister might be at this meeting thinking his/her problem is beyond solution. It’s high time all with such thoughts changed their opinion! The Lord Jesus Christ is our “mighty warrior” (Jer. 20:11). No weapon of the devil shall prevail against us! Even if you are a ‘legitimate captive’ of the enemy via family sell-out, collective destiny (aka ‘it runs in the family’, etc), you will be freed in the mighty Name of Yahshua!
Because NOW the LORD has arisen to deliver you from the one who is too strong for you:

“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him” (Ps 12:5; 35:10).
Tonight is your night of freedom. Believe it and claim it. He took away all the curses so that the blessing of Abraham will be yours (Gal. 3:13-14) Amen!
