That Christ pre-existed before his birth as God is made plain in the Holy Scriptures. The gospel according to St. John has shed light surrounding the mystery of His pre-existence. John began his gospel massage with the introduction of Christ’s pre-existence to the lost world standing in need of a great Saviour and eternal life, and said: “In the beginning was the word and word was with God and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that was made”Jn – 1:1-3.
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” (John 17:17). Christ defined the New Testament Church by two key characteristics: His Church would be Truth-observing and Spirit-led. (John 4:23-24). On this foundation stands the 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies, a body of Bible-believing congregations in Ghana with a growing global spread.Christ brought Grace and Truth (John 1:17); the two were never meant to be conflicting. He saves by His grace, and His grace leads to a new life rooted in righteousness and holiness. (Eph. 2:8-10, 4:22-24). The Church must reflect the character of Christ, her Lord and Saviour, through the observance of His just and good commandments. (1John 2:3-4; Rom. 7:12). It’s the basic identifying sign of a true people of God espousing faith in Christ. (Rev. 12:17, 14:12). At the same time, the Church must also showcase the power of His saving truth by signs and wonders and miracles of healing and deliverance. (Mark 16:15-18; 1 Cor. 2:4-5). To fulfill both takes the baptism of the Holy Spirit, providing power to obey, to serve and to witness to the world. (Acts 1:8). This is the essence of our faith and practice—driven by divine grace and power. (Acts 4:33). We proclaim the full redemptive message of Christ—that His gospel, if obeyed, sets men free, not only spiritually but also physically. (John 8:32, 34; Luke 4:18-22). We preach the whole gospel to the whole man. (1 Thess. 5:23; 3 John 1:2).
- In the authority of the scriptures only. That the scriptures constitute the sole authority for Christian doctrine and practice and therefore reject all unbiblical doctrines and practices such as Christmas which, along with several other so-called ‘Christian’ festivals, originated from paganism – Rev 22:18-19.
- In the Divine Sonship and Messiaship of Jesus Christ (in Hebrew Yahshua HaMashiach), who is Saviour, Healer, Justifier, Intercessor and Baptizer with the Holy Spirit – Isa. 9:6; Micah 5:2; Heb. !:8; Matt. 3:11; Rom. 3:24.
- In the blood of Jesus for the remission of sins and sanctification – Heb. 9:22,13:12;, 1 John 1:7.
- In baptism by immersion in the river which is the Biblically approved format laid down by Christ as an example for all believers – Matt. 3:13-15; Rom. 6:3-4.
- In the Holy Spirit baptism representing a seal of redemption and endowment of power for service – Acts 1:8; Eph 4:30. That this “power from on high” should be manifested in the gifts and fruit of the Spirit – 1Cor. 12:8-11; 1Cor 2:4-5; Gal 5:22-23.
- That all the Ten Commandments, together with the dietary law, are still in force – Luke 6:17; James 2:10-12; Lev. 11:1-44-45; Acts 15:20; 1Pet. 1:14-15; Isa 66:15-17. That these divine commands, being spiritual, must be observed through the power of the Holy Spirit – Rom 7:14, 8:2, 4, 7-8; Ezekiel 36:26-27.
- That the seventh day Sabbath is still a valid part of God’s law which Christ upheld and the early church kept- Luke 4:16; Mark 2:27-28; Matt 24:20; Acts 13:42; 44; 17:2; Heb. 4:4,9-10.
- In the healing of all sicknesses through faith in the name of Christ by “whose stripes you are healed”—Isa 53:5; 1 Pet 2:24; Mark 16:18; James 5:14.
- That Christ has a Church which represents His body and to have fellowship in said Church, we must endeavor to keep the unity of the spirit Eph 4:3.
- That His second coming is personal, imminent and is the blessed of the Church- 1Thess 4:16-17; John 14:1-13; Rev. 1:7.
On these points of doctrine, a careful study of the scriptures shows that we are at one with the first-century Pentecostal church. Our name expresses our creed: Pentecostal and commandment keeping just like the early church. (Acts 5:32).
The logo of the Association of 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies communicates our core beliefs as New Testament believers in Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Each element of the logo expresses a key tenet of our faith founded on the Bible and on the Bible alone.
We begin at our source of hope and faith: The blood of Jesus by which we are sanctified and cleansed of our sins. (Acts 20:28; 1 John 1:7; Rev. 7:14). THE BLOOD is symbolized by the red-blood interlacing 7DP.
The tables of law (also symbolic of the heart) represent our full acceptance of the New Covenant whereby God’s law is written in our minds and hearts. (Heb. 8:10-11; Ezekiel 36:26-27).
The Dove represents the Holy Spirit of Christ sent into our hearts as the sanctified children of God and heirs of the Kingdom. (Gal. 4:6; Rom. 8:15-16).
Closely related in symbolism are the flames of fire representing divine power to the Church in its ministry of deliverance, restoration and salvation. The Pentecostal Fire! (Acts 1:8; 2:1-4).
The golden rim around the frame of the divine law represents the glory of God, while its azure (blue) surface the universe over which Yahweh alone wields infinite power.
Truly, our God reigns!
The 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies was registered as a religious organization in 1970. It had its origins in the divine call of the late Apostle-Elder Enoch Ofori.
Apostle Ofori was called to the ministry in 1964 and immediately began to preach the gospel. Amid persecution from his family, particularly his father, he founded a church in 1967 called ‘ChristHolyChurch’ based at Amakom, the present site of the St Paul’s Catholic Church in Kumasi. The site was acquired with the help of one Mr. Mills.
In 1969, Elder Ofori, then evicted form his father’s house at Amakom and staying at Pankrono, a suburb of Kumasi, was introduced to the 7th Day Pentecostal faith by Bro. L.A. Higley, an American sawmill engineer and a member of the Association of 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies in the United States.
